Initially this trip back to Chicago was simply to take my mom to the Chiquita Rivera (@ChiquisOnline) concert, since it was her birthday present from earlier in the month. But then it turned into so much more. About two years ago I got to meet the gem of a human that is Anjelah Johnson (@AnjelahJohnson) she came to my tiny 500 square foot apartment (at the time) in Texas the morning before one of her many stand up shows and we cooked some food together.
Ever since then, I can't believe I get to call her my friend. About two months ago she texted me saying she was going to be in Chicago and wanted to see if I had any recommendations for things to do. She gave me the dates and I immediately realized that we were both going to be in Chicago around the same time. Instantly knew I had to see if she'd be open to coming over to my childhood home for a carne asada with my family. She had to check with her friends and family to see if they were interested and they also said yes!
So an EPIC carne asada happened where I prepared some recipes from my upcoming cookbook while my brother grilled up some bomb carne asada!
The next day we also had a reunion at the @cubs game!
I grew up in Chicago & lived there up until I was 25/26 years old. I love going back as many times as I can each year. The food in this city will always be some of the best ever!
