It is traveling away from the Sun at a rate of 17.3 km/s. If Voyager were to travel to Proxima Centauri, at this rate, it would take over 73,000 years to arrive. If we could travel at the speed of light, an impossibility due to Special Relativity, it would still take 4.22 years to arrive!

Alpha Centauri is a star system with components 4.2 to 4.4 light-years from Earth and comprises three stars. It is the closest star system to the solar system, and one of its stars is the nearest star to our planet other than the sun.

As the closest star system to our own sun, Alpha Centauri is indeed in our galaxy. Though close in astronomical terms, Alpha Centauri is 25.67 trillion miles away. A more manageable unit is 4.367 light-years, meaning light from our solar system would require that many years to reach Alpha Centauri.
