San Cha's latest album, La Luz de La Esperanza, is a telenovela celebrating queerness in the face of mainstream and sexist telenovela tropes.

San Cha, a Latinx singer, songwriter and performer from California's Bay Area, describes her music as "visceral and explosive." In her latest album, La Luz De La Esperanza, San Cha subverts the classic telenovela femme tropes through the eyes of Dolores, the protagonist of her own queer telenovela. The album begins traditionally, with Dolores as a poor and humble woman who ends up marrying an abusive rich man. But by the end, Dolores falls in love with a genderless light and returns back to the forest—a parallel for San Cha's experience in discovering her queerness and embracing who she's been all along.
