On 14 July 1971, ITN's Christopher Wain reported on the 2nd Battalion, Parachute Regiment (2 PARA) in Belfast. Having first been deployed to Northern Ireland in August 1969 as part of Operation Banner, 2 PARA had since completed a number of tours in the country. Wain reported on the way 2 PARA was operating against gunmen of the Provisional IRA in the city, with paras stripping their landrovers of doors and armour, theoretically so that they could shoot back immediately if provoked.
