Over 1400 years ago Skellig Michael ( west of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland ) became home to a small group of Monks seeking religious solitude and isolation on one of the most extraordinary and harshest locations on earth. Saint Fionán is claimed to have founded the monastery in the 6th century. The monastery remained continuously occupied until the 12th or 13th century. It is listed as a World Heritage Site
