Hailing from Ljubljana, at the height of the Cold War, in 1983, Tožibabe was the first all-female Slovenian-speaking band to play their own instruments and write their own material. They played their own raw, distinct, hardcore punk.

After being influenced by other punk bands from overseas, Yugoslav punk was born out of feelings of alienation and boredom within the socialist youth, especially given the State’s mission to integrate young people into its (communist) ideology. Tito’s nation-building program focused on building a strong, collective whole, and neglected the liberty and expression of the individual. Punk in Yugoslavia was a backlash against this.

In Tožibabe's own words from an interview in 2023;

"We fought against single minded people, politics, petty bourgeois. We fought to become more open towards Western Europe, we wanted the subculture to get its place and become a part of the society. We fought for values such as freedom of mind and speech. We realized that equality, justice, socialism and communism are not real; they existed only on paper, and were stolen to control the masses. We fought for a better, fairer and more tolerant society.

But looking back it was a work of Sisyphus. All problems are still here and present, sometimes supported and misused in the name of democracy. We’re allowed to think and speak freely, we can rebel but we are brainwashed by the media and manipulated every day by individuals, companies, governments, etc. We are on the way to transhuman society controlled and managed by corporations and politicians. We have become degraded as humans. And yes, that is NOT what we fought for."

This 26-track collection has been completely remastered by Jessica Thompson and authorised by Tožibabe members Alenka Marsenič Marsa, Lidija Rupnik and Mojca "Krischka" Krisch. It was released by Deanwell Global Music in 2023, which is based in Atlanta, Georgia, in the US.
