This man was walking past a market one day when he saw an old man sitting at the back of his truck unloading his yam. He stopped the asked the old man why he isn't wearing any clothes underneath such hot weather. He also asked the old man if he had eaten. The old man said that he's not hungry, he's been busy all morning harvesting the yams and getting the yams ready for sale. It was 3 pm and the man still hadn't eaten. Hearing this, the young man quickly went and bought noodles from a vendor, he took the food back to the old man.
The young man then asked if he could visit the old man's farm as he wanted to buy his yams. The old man took him back home to his field. He met the old man's wife and other family members. The young man learned that because of heavy rain past couple of days, the family had to get the yams out of the ground before it goes bad but it's hard to sell so many yams at once. The family has been losing money from the farm but there was nothing they could do. It really is hard work.
The young man took a look at the field and gave the old couple a couple hundred dollars. The couple were speechless. The young man said that he will take his friend to see the quality of the yams in the field, if it's good, they will buy up all the yams. If it's not they can still keep the money. They will then take the yam to sell at market.
The young man told them that he and his team does this not to make money but to help out old people. Young people are able to make money easier in the city but many old people have to rely on good weather to make money from their produce. The couple agreed. Their kids and grandkids are also around, it's such a nice thing to do for the family who have multiple kids to take care of.
The young man also said that if the quality is okay, they will come back to buy their yams every year. This is a story of how kindness can change someone's life. He does this not to make money but to help out strangers. What an honorable thing to do.
