Oppenheimer star Emma Dumont has opened up about coming out as trans-masculine and non-binary.The actor, who played the sister-in-law of Cillian Murphy’s Robert Oppenheimer in the hit Christopher Nolan film, updated their name and pronouns on social media last week.
A representative told TMZ that they now identify as “a trans masculine non-binary person” and while “their work name is still going to be Emma Dumont, they will go by Nick with friends and family."
Speaking to Out Magazine on Tuesday 10 December, Nick described coming out as trans as “one of the longest challenges I've faced in life”
The actor, who is also known for their TV roles in The Gifted and Aquarius, told Out: “I lived in an authoritarian household for many decades where it wasn't safe to be myself at home. I knew at 13/14 I wasn't 'like other girls,' I knew I liked girls and I knew I didn't feel right in my body."
Nick went on to add: “Now I'm out, I have a life I could have only dreamed of as a kid, and I still get to play women at work. I didn't think I'd be out to everyone so soon but I made a promise to myself that if someone asked, I would share. Someone did ask and I shared…because I'm proud”
