Did Glinda Have Any Real Friends Besides Elphaba? It seems like Glinda may never have had genuine friends before or after Elphaba. In high school and later at Shiz, her “friends,” like Pfannee and Shenshen, appear more like admirers than real companions. Their relationship seems entirely based on Glinda staying popular. For instance, when they mock her hat or discourage her from dancing at the Ozdust Ballroom, it’s clear they’re ready to drop her if she steps out of line. After that night, we don’t see her interacting with them again, at least in the movie. Glinda equates popularity with power, but none of her admirers genuinely care for her as a person. Elphaba, however, changes that. While Elphaba’s loneliness is well-known, Glinda’s quiet isolation is often overlooked.
