Have you ever wondered what the cultural boundaries of Western Europe are? Or of Southern Europe, or Eastern Europe?
Well, according to the Standing Committee on Geographical Names in Germany, these are the borders:
Southern Europe includes Portugal, Spain, part of France, and Italy.
Southeastern Europe consists of almost the entire Balkan Peninsula, plus parts of Romania, Moldova, and Turkey.
Northern Europe is the most obvious, including the Nordic countries, Iceland, and Denmark.
Eastern Europe starts from Norway's border with Russia and moves down along the Baltic states all the way to the Black Sea shores in Ukraine.
Western Europe comprises the United Kingdom and Ireland, plus the Benelux countries and most of France, while the remaining countries, including the Baltic states, are culturally considered part of Central Europe.
