Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Sunday that President Salome Zourabichvili must vacate her office at the end of her term after she said she would not step down.
Outgoing president Zourabichvili, a critic of the government and a strong advocate of Georgian membership in the EU, said on Saturday she would stay in office because the new parliament was illegitimate and had no authority to name her successor.
The opposition says the October election that brought in the new parliament was rigged.
Georgia has been plunged into crisis since the governing Georgian Dream party said on Thursday it was halting European Union accession talks for the next four years.
