Carl Perking wrote it and his version was a big hit on all three Billboard charts. A Country #1 and #2 on the Pop and R&B charts. Released on Sun Records in February 1956.
Elvis released his version on an EP and entered the Billboard Top-40 ten weeks later, peaking at #20.
Johnny Cash gave Carl the inspiration to write the song, based on an anecdote about an old military buddy.
Carl Perkins’ version of Blue Suede Shoes gave Sun Records their first million-seller.
