Around the mid 80’s guys like Doug Lazy, Mr Lee and Fast Eddie from Chicago started producing house tracks with rappers. They claimed to have created a new genre, Hip-House.

…however, this was also happening on this side of the pond. In fact, Wikipedia tells me that the first Hip-House track on vinyl was by London based Beatmasters - Rok da house. So it seemed appropriate that I started my mix with this one (don’t worry, it does get better!).

Continuing into the early 90’s, many Hip-House tracks were played in the rave scene at the time and also heavily sampled (probably due to many records having acapella versions on the b-side). See how many woo, yeah’s you can count from the Lyn Collins ‘think’ break J
