The PIG WAR Between The USA and UK #shorts
Did you know the U.S. and the U.K. almost went to war… over a pig? Yeah, seriously!
Here’s what happened: In 1859, on San Juan Island, between Canada and the U.S., tensions
were high. The island was claimed by both the British and the Americans, but people lived there
peacefully… until one fateful day.
An American settler named Lyman Cutlar found a British pig rooting through his potato patch
and—furious—he shot it! The pig belonged to a British man named Charles Griffin, who
demanded compensation.
Now, Cutler refused, saying the pig had trespassed! Things escalated fast—British and
American troops were deployed, both sides were ready to fight… over a pig! The military
standoff lasted weeks.
But nobody fired a shot, but for a while, it looked like that little pig could cause an all-out war.
Finally they agreed to joint occupation of the island. The ‘Pig War’ ended peacefully, with only
the pig as a casualty.
