Sonic 3 is taking things to the next level, especially with Shadow’s backstory and the inclusion of two Jim Carreys—one as Robotnik and one as his grandfather, Gerald. Director Jeff Fowler shared how they really listened to fans after the first Sonic movie, which has led to a much bigger third film, with improvements in CG and some epic, Avengers-style moments. One of the biggest challenges was taking the game’s story elements and making them fit the movie. Fowler emphasized that they focused on properly developing Shadow and Maria’s arcs rather than rushing through them. Shadow’s story needed to be done right, not just as quick exposition. New images show Shadow looking like John Wick in the rain, alongside Team Sonic at a Chow restaurant. Also, Jim Carrey spent three hours in makeup for Gerald, on top of playing both characters, which was a big task for the retired actor. But Carrey was all in and contributed heavily to his character. Lastly, a post-credits scene is confirmed, and fans are speculating it’ll feature Metal Sonic!
