Cary Levine shares his insight into the life and work of Mike Kelley. Levine’s first book, Pay for Your Pleasures: Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy, Raymond Pettibon (University of Chicago Press, 2013), was the first substantial analysis of three important Southern California artists whose work continues to resonate in the world of art and politics. In addition to his scholarship and teaching, Dr. Levine has written for magazines such as Art in America and BOMB, published numerous essays for exhibition catalogues, and worked in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
