When Coca-Cola and bleach are mixed, there is a chemical reaction between carbon dioxide and bleach lime. Chlorine lime is a mixture of compounds formed by molecules Ca (ClO) 2, CaCl 2, Ca (OH) 2 and crystallization water1. Carbonic acid is a weak acid found in Coca-Cola. It reacts with the base Ca (OH) 2 to form the salt CaCO 3 and water2:
Ca (OH) 2 + CO 2 → CaCO 3 + H 2 O
The salt CaCO 3 is white in color and precipitates at the bottom of the beaker. As a result of the reaction, Coca-Cola loses its color and gases.
