Starpoint was an R&B/Funk band from Maryland, whose members were Renee Diggs (Lead Vocals), Kayode Adeyemo: (Vocals, Keyboards), Ernesto Phillips(guitar), Orlando Phillips(Bass guitar, keyboard bass, saxophone), George Phillips(keyboards), Greg Phillips(drums). The group released their self-titled debut album in 1980, which produced the single, 'I Just Wanna Dance With You', that became their first hit on the R&B charts. Their main producer was Lionel Job, who helped them release one album almost every year throughout the 80s. Their sound was initially an organic instrumental funk sound, which progressed to a synth-pop-r&b sound of the mid 80s. Their breakout crossover hit was 'Object Of My Desire' from the album, Restless, released in 1985. Their followup singles during the 1980s were 'Restless', 'He Wants My Body', 'D.Y.B.O., 'Keep On It, Its All Yours, and He Wants My Body' Starpoint's last hit was 'I Want You-You Want Me' in 1990 which was had a combo New Jack Swing and House sound, was produced by Teddy Riley and the late Gene Griffin.

Starpoint broke up in after their last album, Have You Got What It Takes, released in 1990, but Diggs and Phillips continued to write music for other artists, Diggs also recorded an obscure solo album, Oasis, in the 1990s, but the album was released only in Europe back in 2000. Tragically both of them passed away a year apart. Phillips died in 2004 from a stroke, and Diggs passed away in 2005, from complications from Multiple Sclerosis. Starpoint released a Best of Hits compilation album in 2006.
