More details about our project ⬇️

We have done most of the work ourselves excluding:
1. Initial site prep including removing tree stumps, leveling the pad, and digging for the foundation
2. Installing the driveway
3. Laying the block stem walls
4. Pouring the slab
5. Framing the second floor
6. Installing the roof
7. Installing the Septic System (although Alex helped with this)
8. Drilling the well and installing the pump
9. Installing garage doors

We still have a long way to go but at this point we have all of our utilities installed except for gas. We plan to do the majority of the remaining work ourselves but will probably hire out a portion of HVAC, electrical, drywall, and the exterior masonry. We also may hire contractors for siding install if it fits the budget!

If you’re newer to our page, we have been building this structure for 10 months and have been working on it while working corporate jobs. It’s definitely not feasible for everyone to spend 2 years building a home but we share our experiences to give you some insight into the work and knowledge it takes to make it happen!

Last— we are paying for this project ourselves. We’ve worked hard for many years to save for this project and continue to work hard to make our dreams a reality!

ABOUT US: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to. We still work corporate day jobs, but are working to eventually leave the 9-5 lifestyle in favor of a self-built, debt-free, homestead on 6 acres nearby.
