Spring - The Prisoner (Eight By Ten) 1971

Pat Moran - Vocals, Mellotron
Ray Martinez - Lead guitar, Mellotron, twelve string guitar
Adrian Bone Maloney - Bass guitar
Pique Withers - Drums, glockenspiel
Kips Brown - Piano, organ, Mellotron

It has been hailed as a mellotron lover's classic. The unpretentious songwriting, the great use of tension.Spring's only album is considered by many to be one of the defining albums of the early British symphonic sound. Spring's sound is characterized by an enormously strong and emotional melodic feel, along with a huge, grandiose orchestral emphasis (due primarily to the presence of no less than three mellotrons). The album has an extremely pleasing "warm" sound, and some very emotional arrangements go along with the great acoustic guitar and organ.

The cover art is by Marcus Keef. Marcus Keef is the author behind most of the cover arts of Vertigo, Neon and Nepentha labels of early '70s; he has a really distinctive style and often uses false colors photography. I believe he did the same for David Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World, (Dress cover) in 1971.
