A while back I built a storage box for the back of my van conversion. It’s been super useful, even if just for a foot rest, and also supports my 3 section king size pullout bench bed.
But could I make it more useful?
That was the question I asked myself as I noticed my bags sliding around the back of the van as I drove along.
So I whipped up a quick medieval torture device and started spary painting bunch of D-rings black.
Next, I took some measurements from the box and began marking where I wanted to attach the d-rings too.
On the long front edge, I attached 3 d-ring on each side, facing inwards and, when this was done, grabbed some elastic.
Creating a loop in one end around the top left d-ring, I could thread the elastic through the others and find a pattern I liked.
I made sure to slip about an inch length of shrink tubing over the knot as I went and grabbed the nearest portable heat-producing object to hand - a small blow torch, and to be fair it did a good job.
I then decided to add the leftover elastic to the far end of the box, using exactly the same method, only this time I got the blowtorch too close and it singed the elastic.
Luckily, I had enough leftover to redo it and this time got a hairdryer which did a much better job.
And with that, I have some really useful elastic netting that can keep all of my things safely together while I drive!
