On March 23, 1994, "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky made hockey history, surpassing his childhood hero, Gordie Howe, by scoring goal no. 802 to and become the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer.

Gretzky would go on to finish his career with 894 goals, a record that has stood for over 30 years. Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals now stands on the doorstep of doing what was once thought impossible, as he closes in on breaking the all-time goal record.
