This is the Vintage ReIssued V65HTSB in Tobacco Sunburst – an affordable Trev Wilkinson-designed take on the iconic Fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar offset guitar body shape.

Find out more about the V65 here:

If you’re familiar with Fender’s offset guitars, you’ll appreciate that the V65 is something of a streamlined, simplified take on the idea. Typically on Jazzmasters and Jaguars you’ll find vibrato bridges, extra pickup switching options, and they come with their own respective pickup types too.

The Vintage V65HTSB – which will set you back around €400/$400 forgoes any of the extras, giving us Wilkinson single coil soapbar P90 pickups, and a Wilkinson hardtail bridge (although there is another Vintage model with a vibrato bridge too). You also get an alder body and a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and 22 medium jumbo frets, with Wilkinson Deluxe tuners and a Graph Tech NuBone nut completing the hardware.

So, all that said, what we have here is a guitar that – on paper – looks to be an excellent first step into the world of the offset guitar… but how does it perform? That’s what we’re here to find out! In this video, I play the guitar in as many different styles as possible, from clean pop, folk and indie strumming to classic and hard rock, some alt rock and some punk, and even a bit of metal in Drop D! Let’s see if the V65 turns out to be a genuine Fender/Squier competitor.

25:33 My conclusions on the V65
26:32 Thanks and goodbye

My setup was as follows: I ran the V65 into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head, using my Fender Tre-Verb for extra reverb and tremolo sounds, my Greer Lightspeed for overdrive, and my Revv G3 for heavy distortion sounds. The amp went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done.

Here’s some links to those bits of gear:
