Actually, this plug has a broken ground prong- Let’s fix it.
I picked up this watertight repair plug- it comes with different sized grommets.
The white grommet fits my chord. You want a snug fit so it will be watertight.
And the extra grommets work great for a fashion accessory.
Next, I measure and make a mark an inch and an eighth from the end of the cord and then I strip off the jacket.
I’m careful not to cut the insulation on the wires inside when I’m doing this.
The directions say to strip 7/16” off the end of each wire.
The terminal pockets on the plug connector are color coded to match the wires on the cord.
I started out trying to connect one wire at a time, but they’re so stiff I ended up having to do all three at once to make it work.
Once the terminal screws are tightened down you slide the plug into the housing.
There’s a groove that aligns the two together and three screws to connect them.
Finally, I slide the grommet down the cord into the housing, and then I tighten the compression nut.
I like how this went together- now let’s see if it works….If sparks start flying- I’ll know I did something wrong.
Wow! I could be an electrician. I guess I don’t need to clean up and I can head home for the day. @hausplans
