"Regulators, policymakers, they talk a big game about equality, about egalitarianism, like you said, very progressive goals. In reality, what that means is they want more authority to do whatever they want and to use the justification of equality after the fact to say, this is why we did what we did. And that's not really a very good way of actually implementing equality.If you care about equality, one of the things that you have to care about is equality before the law. Which means that policymakers, politicians, all the people in Washington shouldn't be in a privileged position to make rules that all the rest of us have to follow without something constraining the kinds of things that they could do to make them accountable to us. This is not a radical insight. This is just the rule of law. Right?
