Giant Moves: Relocating Massive Structures | Complete Series | FD Engineering
World’s Strongest Ships - Titanic Forces of the Sea:
Do you find moving house stressful? Imagine moving not just the contents of a house, but moving THE ENTIRE house… brick walls, chimney, furniture…the lot, in one piece, without it falling apart. This is the kind of daunting challenge facing teams of structural movers in HUGE MOVES. This series shows some of the most daring and long-distance relocation projects ever attempted. We follow teams hauling supersize structures on road, rail, sea and air journeys.
00:00:00 Risky Rescues
Two teams undertake daring rescue missions: moving a lighthouse from a crumbling cliff and saving a town sinking into a mineshaft. Sankaty Lighthouse on Nantucket Island is dangerously close to an eroding cliff. To prevent it from collapsing into the ocean, it must be moved inland. The film follows structural mover Jerry Matyiko as he attempts to relocate the 400-ton, 90-foot lighthouse 400 meters inland, navigating obstacles like a golf course and sand dunes.
00:46:54 Giant Wood Haul
Two teams of building movers face the challenge of relocating colossal wooden structures. In Manitoba, Canada’s top heavy hauler Harold Minty attempts to move an 8,000 sq. ft. timber tavern 37 km over snowy, icy mountains to become a new clubhouse for the Minnewasta Golf & Country Club. The current clubhouse is in dire condition, shaking whenever the dishwasher is turned off. Meanwhile, in Staunton, Virginia, house-trucker Jimmy Matyiko is tasked with moving a historic farmstead from the Frontier Culture Museum to a more visible location near the highway to attract more visitors.
01:33:48 100 Ton Train
A team of British engineers embarks on the longest haul in Huge Moves: a 7,000-mile journey to transport a 100-ton steam locomotive from Bloemfontein, South Africa, to Glasgow, Scotland. We follow heavy hauler Andrew Goodman and restoration engineer Jim Mitchell as they face a series of daunting challenges. The 60-year-old 15F locomotive, once destined for scrap, was saved by Glasgow's Transport Museum. Now, Andrew and Jim must bring it back to the city where it was built in the 1940s. Their plan to truck the locomotive 600 miles to Durban port hits a major setback when transport police deem the vehicle unfit for the load. Can they find another way to get the fragile 15F to the docks?
02:20:43 Dream Homes
Two teams of building movers relocate massive homes to new locations. In Texas, Adam Wooley moves a 200-ton stone mansion across the Great Plains to create a retirement home for his mother. The journey is filled with challenges, from storms to snakes. Meanwhile, newlyweds Tawny and Ian Wilson find their dream home in Seattle but must move it from an industrial area to a lakeside plot. They enlist house-hauler Jeremy Nickel to navigate 10 miles of urban obstacles, including power lines, narrow bridges, and a lake crossing. Will both homes survive the journey?
