Success with Insect Netting! Protecting Kale and Cabbage Plants

We tried using insect netting for the first time and it’s paying off! Our kale and cabbage are looking great, with little sign of the dreaded cabbage worms. 🐛

This has made harvesting our kale a lot easier and much more enjoyable! 🎉

We installed insect netting over our beds using the netting and hoop bender from @bootstrapfarmer! The hoops are made out of EMT which you can purchase at most big box stores 😊

☀️ Now that our daily temps are getting up into the 80s, we switched out the insect netting for aluminum shade cloth!

🥬 Brassica plants prefer cooler weather so this shade cloth will help keep our plants happy!

ABOUT US: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to.
