Description:
Did you know the United States once considered buying Greenland? During the Trump administration, the idea sparked global attention, but there’s more to it than just a real estate deal. Greenland, the world’s largest island, is rich in natural resources like iron, uranium, and oil. Its strategic location near Russia and Europe, along Arctic sea routes, makes it vital for geopolitics and national defense. With a history of land purchases like Alaska and the Louisiana Territory, could Greenland have been America’s 51st state? Watch to find out why this icy island is so important!

Transcript:
The United States wants to buy Greenland—or at least, that’s what Donald Trump suggested.
You see, Greenland is the largest island in the world. While over 80% of it is covered by an ice sheet, the island is rich in natural resources like iron, uranium, and vast oil and gas reserves.
But the most important reason lies in its location. Greenland sits along key Arctic sea routes that are becoming more navigable due to melting ice.
Its proximity to Russia and Europe makes it strategically valuable. Control over Greenland would allow the US to strengthen its influence in the Arctic and enhance early missile detection systems, crucial in the event of a conflict with Russia or China.
The US has a history of purchasing land from other nations. It bought Alaska from Russia, Louisiana from France, and in 1917, the Virgin Islands were purchased from Denmark for $25 million.
So, during the Trump administration, the prospect of adding a 51st state loks very likely.
