ELEW. We met first in 1994 when he was the pianist for the production of 'Ain't Misbehavin". Though Eric was enrolled in school at the time I moved to NYC as an adult and began my journey as a living artist; armed with determination to express myself as honestly as possible without references anyone else or pretending to be someone that I was not for the sake of commercial appeal. We both spent days on end at Smalls Jazz Club searching for the magic that was created with the stylistic jazz we have come to know as bebop. It took us all down very different paths. Eric Lewis does art his way and has a team of people who let him experience himself. This makes him what I refer to as a 'living artist'. No amount of mass media marketing can compete with being the artist you want to be. Art communicated to the world the highest form of self-expression that humankind has to offer.
Stay true. Stay you.
