Why The United States SO BIG? 🇺🇸 #shorts

Why is the United States SO BIG?
Today, the U.S. covers about 3.8 million square miles, making it the third largest country in the
world!
It all started with just thirteen small colonies on the East Coast. The U.S. began expanding
In 1803, the Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the country. For just $15 million, the U.S.
acquired over 828,000 square miles of land from France. That’s less than three cents an acre!
Then came westward expansion—adding territories like Texas, Oregon, and California. By the
mid-1800s, Manifest Destiny—the idea that Americans were destined to expand coast to
coast—was in full swing.
Even Alaska and Hawaii came later. Alaska was bought from Russia in 1867 for just $7.2
million—another bargain! And Hawaii joined as the 50th state in 1959.
So, through purchases, treaties, wars, and settlements, the U.S. went from a small strip of land
to a continental superpower.
