Dario Argento is the director that many think of first when they hear the word giallo. Emerging from the 60s with a long screenwriting resume, he directed The Bird with the Crystal Plumage in 1970 with his producer father Salvatore's connections. Distilling his dreams, nightmares, and deepest fears into his work, Argento would go on to make some of the most distinct gialli of the period, including The Cat o' Nine Tails, Four Flies on Grey Velvet, and Deep Red. Argento is also singular for continually revitalizing the genre through the 2000s.
