“They delivered the bomb... then vanished into hell.”"Into the Jaws of Death" is a thunderous Sabaton-style metal anthem that tells the haunting true story of the USS Indianapolis — a heavy cruiser tasked with a top-secret mission that shaped the course of history.
In July 1945, the Indy delivered components for the first atomic bomb to the island of Tinian. Days later, on its return journey, it was struck by Japanese torpedoes and sunk in the Philippine Sea, taking hundreds of sailors down with her.
What followed was five days of terror: no rescue, no radio, and shark-infested waters. Over 800 men entered the ocean. Only 316 survived.
Even worse — Captain Charles B. McVay III, despite his innocence and trauma, was court-martialed, blamed for the loss, and later took his own life.
This song is a tribute to the truth, to the silence, and to the brave.
