On 17 January 1991, ITN filmed US forces on patrol in the Saudi town of Khafji, on the border with Iraqi-occupied Kuwait. Soldiers manned road blocks in and out of the town before undertaking an armoured patrol of the area. The same day, US-led coalition forces began waging war from the air against the forces of Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Less than two weeks after this footage was filmed, Khafji would become the site of the first major ground engagement of the Gulf War, as coalition forces fought off an Iraqi effort to capture the town.
