France is responsible for funding terrorism and insecurity in the Sahel. This was the message Niger passed through its Foreign Minister, to the hundreds of world leaders gathered at the just-concluded United Nations Assembly. The Sahel has been experiencing one of the worst insecurity crises for some years now and the insecurity seems to have increased in recent times. However, Niger was not the only country that hammered on this issue, the other members of the AES Confederation, have also said the same thing. The interesting thing is that they said this right in the presence of French officials. The United Nations General Assembly is the policy arm of the United Nations and each year since it was established, the UNGA has organized a session which usually holds every September. In each session policy reports are given but leaders are also given the opportunity to share their thoughts, policies and ideas regarding several issues. The just concluded UNGA was the 79th session and it was there the Foreign Minister of Niger addressed world leaders regarding the insecurity in the Sahel. Giving his address, the Nigerien Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, denounced the "new recolonisation strategy" led by France, which involves supporting terrorism in the Sahel. Niger’s Foreign Minister started with detailing the security crisis that has been experienced in the Sahel region for more than a decade.
