"What happened yesterday is that we were sitting at the entrance to the house, we were surprised that the settlers started attacking the houses and burning the cars. They burned the cars here, targeted the balcony and started fires at our neighbors. The people, the children.. We have many children and women, we sent everyone away. No one stayed, only me and my brother, with some other people who were here in front of us. I came from the inside and we stayed here. The soldier came from that direction and shot him. STORYLINE:
Palestinian residents of Kafr Malik said Thursday that there were casualties and property damage after Jewish settlers attacked their town in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said three people were killed there late on Wednesday.
Munjed Nawaf Hamayel said that he was injured and his brother Murshed was shot dead by a soldier during the attack.
"We were surprised that the settlers started attacking the houses and burning the cars," said Hamayel.
He added that a solder approached his brother near their house and shot him.
"The soldier came from that direction and shot him. He (the soldier) saw that he had nothing with him," Hamayel said.
Najeb Rostom, the head of Kafr Malik, said more than 100 settlers entered the town Wednesday evening, set property ablaze and opened fire on residents who tried to stop them.
The Israeli military confirmed that settlers set fire to property in Kafr Malik and said five were arrested.
It said soldiers opened fire on Palestinians who had thrown rocks on forces and that there were a number of people killed and wounded as a result.
CCTV footage released on Thursday by B’Tselem, a human rights group, showed Israeli settlers holding sticks and hurling stones, setting fire to vehicles in the towns of Kafr Malik and Taybeh in the West bank.
