
INTRODUCTION///
The anterior approach (Henry's) to the forearm provides safe and excellent anterior exposure of the whole length of the radius. To do this, the approach utilizes the plane between the brachioradialis and pronator Teres muscles.
APPROACH INCLUDE///
Fixation of radial shaft fractures.
Bone grafting of non-unions.
Fasciotomy for compartment syndrome.
Radial osteotomy.
Tumour biopsy and excision.
Abscess or sepsis drainage.
POSITIONING///
The patient is positioned supine with the arm abducted to the side on an arm board. Ensure that there is space to bring in an image intensifier under the arm board. A tourniquet is placed on the upper arm. The surgeon and assistant sit on the ipsilateral side as the affected arm.
POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS///
Well-known risks of this approach include injury to the:
Superficial radial nerve.
Radial artery.
Median nerve.
Posterior interosseous nerve.
