1997, Static X sign to Warner Brothers Records. A year later they would release Wisconsin Death Trip. They wanted to produce the record with renowned producer Terry Date. Who by then had already produced records for Metal Church, Soundgarden, Dream Theatre and Pantera.

Date had also produced Prong's 1993 album Cleansing and White Zombies Astro Creep 2000, however it seemed the cost of Terry Date wasn’t quite within the budget for Static X. Instead they went with the next best thing, Ulrich Wild who had been Dates right hand man for some years, working on many of the same records as Terry Date. So it made sense that given some of the influences of the band, especially Prong, that Static X would want to work with Date.
