We ate at Blumen where we tried pork cutlet with mushrooms and gravy, chucrut (sauerkraut with bacon), boiled potatoes with parsley, caramelized apples and peas. We paired this with a blond beer and a red beer from the local Berlin brewery. For dessert, we went with a classic and tried the Apfelstrudel, which is a delicious a pastry stuffed with apples, nuts, raisins.
Guten appetit and we hope you enjoy our little walking tour through town!
🇦🇷🍽️ Day Three in Villa General Belgrano: Exploring, German Food & Epic Desserts | Argentina Vlog 🥨🍰
🌄 Morning in Villa General Belgrano: Breakfast & Town Views
Our third day in Villa General Belgrano kicks off with plans for exploration and a hearty breakfast. We grab a table at a local café, enjoying café con leche, fresh croissants (medialunas), and classic Argentine toast with cheese and cured ham. Coffee in Argentina always comes with a little cookie or soda water on the side—small touches that make mornings here special. Breakfast for two: only 400 pesos (just over $10 USD), and totally worth it for a delicious, relaxing start.
🏰 Town Landmarks: Climbing the Lookout Tower
Fueled by caffeine, we tackle the colorful lookout tower—el mirador—for panoramic views of Villa General Belgrano and the mountain ranges surrounding town. The spiraling climb is easy and the top offers a unique perspective, with markers showing which way you’re facing. It’s a must for first-time visitors (and even for Sam, who’d missed it on previous trips).
🛍️ European-Style Shopping Streets
We stroll through Paseo Vienes—a whimsical, medieval-style outdoor plaza packed with boutiques, cafés, and craft shops. Each painted cottage facade hides a unique store, from artisan beer steins to cute summer dresses. Across the street, Paseo Los Troncos offers a more modern but equally charming lineup of souvenir shops and boutiques. Window-shopping here is as much fun as buying.
🐕 Riverwalk & Local Life
A detour to the local river reveals playful dogs splashing about—true small-town vibes. A little K-pop in the distance (Gangnam Style, anyone?) adds to the eclectic soundtrack of summer. But with the sun climbing higher, it’s time for lunch.
🍺🍖 German Lunch at Blumen: Feast Mode On
We head to Blumen, a highly rated German restaurant just outside the town center. The meal starts with fresh bread and mayo (pickled veggies and gherkins included), plus house-brewed beers: a blonde and a red. Then the main event arrives:
Göpfnatah Blumen: Thick pork cutlets with a creamy mushroom-walnut gravy.
Choucroute: Sauerkraut with bits of pork, paired with boiled potatoes, caramelized apples, and green peas.
The flavors are a symphony—sweet, sour, savory, all in one plate. The portions are massive, easily enough for three or four. Don’t be afraid to ask for a to-go box! This is German food done right—our best in Argentina so far.
🍰🍒 Dessert Overload: Ice Cream Cups & Apple Strudel
Because we never learn, we order two desserts:
Black Forest Ice Cream Cup: Cherries, cinnamon, mousse, and a pink grenadine-like syrup at the bottom.
Apple Strudel: Loaded with apples, raisins, and walnuts, served à la mode (because of course).
Both are decadent—definitely shareable, but we powered through anyway.
💸 Cost & Siesta Time
Total bill: 1700 pesos (about $45 USD) for two—a splurge for Argentina, but the desserts and beer pushed it over the top. No regrets, just bulging bellies and the urgent need for a nap.
🚶♂️ Back Through Town: Walk It Off
Stuffed and satisfied, we waddle back through the summer heat, promising ourselves a lighter dinner. If you visit Villa General Belgrano, Blumen is a must for German food lovers!
🔔 Wrap-Up & Next Adventure
