Paul Weller, born on May 25, 1958, in Woking, England, is a musician, songwriter, and cultural icon whose career spans over five decades. Known as "The Modfather," Weller has shaped the British music scene through his evolution from punk to soul and Britpop. Weller began his career with The Jam, a punk-inspired band he formed in 1972 with Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler. The band became a defining force in British music with classic songs like “Going Underground”, “Beat Surrender” and “A Town Called Malice”. While hugely successful in the UK, The Jam failed to break through in the United States, unlike contemporaries like The Police and Elvis Costello. By the early 1980s, Weller’s fascination with Motown and soul grew, leading to the formation of The Style Council in 1983. Alongside Mick Talbot, Weller explored blue-eyed soul and jazz-infused music until the band's breakup in 1989. In 1991, Weller launched a solo career with his debut album "Into Tomorrow". Subsequent albums like "Wild Wood" (1993) and "Stanley Road" (1995) cemented his legacy, the latter featuring "You Do Something to Me", an enduring anthem about unattainable love.

This live performance of "You Do Something to Me" is from the Grand Gala du Disc, the annual TV gala of AVRO Television in the Netherlands, on October 3, 1995.
