Here’s how a hybrid Air Conditioning compressor works!
The AC Compressor is responsible for compressing gaseous refrigerant coming from the evaporator, before sending it to the condenser to become liquefied. Hybrid vehicles cannot rely on the internal combustion engine and thus must use the high voltage battery as a source of power.

This AC Compressor was out of a 2014 Ford Fusion hybrid. It is a scroll type compressor, using two spirals that move in an elliptical manner to compress the gas as it is moved from the outside to the center of the spiral. DC high voltage is supplied to the inverter assembly, which is integrated into the unit. The inverter transforms the voltage to 3 phase alternating current which gets passed through the coil windings in the electric motor. The rotor sits in the middle of the windings with 6 permanent magnets and will turn the scroll wheel when voltage is applied.
