Has the campaign for women’s right come at the expense of other groups, not least working class boys and men?
New research warns of “a generation of unhappy and angry men”, suffering the effects of fatherlessness and the denigration of traditionally masculine values and roles.
Meanwhile violence against women and girls has shot up - a rise being blamed on so-called ‘toxic masculinity’.
Kamal and Camilla dig into the research, which reveals a backlash against advances in women’s social standing, manifested at its most extreme by the rise of self-proclaimed misogynist influencer Andrew Tate.
As International Women’s Day 2024 approaches, a shocking new survey highlights the growing fear among young women towards men their age.
According to research by the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ), 62% of women aged 18 to 24 feel unsafe around young men, raising serious concerns about the impact of toxic masculinity on gender relations. Even 41% of young men agree that their peers can be intimidating.
The findings come from a Whitestone Insight survey commissioned by the think tank and are featured in the CSJ’s report, "Lost Boys." The study reveals that young men in the UK are not only falling behind in education and careers but are also facing growing distrust from women.
Experts warn that a generation of discontented and angry young men could have disastrous consequences for both sexes. This trend is fueled by figures like Andrew Tate and a 37% surge in violence against women and girls (VAWG) over the past five years, including stalking, harassment, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
As discussions around gender dynamics, safety, and toxic masculinity continue, these findings spark urgent questions: Are young women right to be afraid? How can we address the growing divide between men and women?
