Released July 2, 1984, The Last in Line was Dio’s electrifying sophomore album—boldly upping the ante after Holy Diver. It introduced keyboardist Claude Schnell and reunited the powerhouse lineup of Ronnie James Dio, Vivian Campbell, Jimmy Bain, and Vinny Appice . Recorded at Caribou Ranch and self-produced by Dio, the album stormed to #4 UK / #23 US and earned both Gold (Sept 1984) and Platinum (Feb 1987) status .

Opening with the anthem “We Rock,” the album showcases blistering metal energy on tracks like “Breathless,” “Evil Eyes,” and “I Speed at Night,” balanced by majestic epics like the title track and the desert-laced closer “Egypt (The Chains Are On)” .
