Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is focused on the energy transition and creating a future with clean, firm energy. We’re doing so with a power source called fusion energy that will scale to meet the world’s rising demand for zero-carbon energy.

Although the world has been working toward commercial fusion energy for more than 50 years, CFS is separating itself from the pack by creating the surest, fastest, path to fusion. Our research and design effort focuses on the best studied fusion machine, called a tokamak, modernized with high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets.

We’ve proved our plans with independently validated, peer-reviewed research for our first tokamak, SPARC, and now have begun manufacturing its components at scale. Our HTS magnets can be used in our own machines or adapted for other fusion projects.

As we take all these pieces and put them together to form SPARC — the world’s first tokamak that will produce commercially relevant fusion energy — we’ll be well on our way to proving we can deliver fusion globally.

The next step after SPARC is a power plant called ARC. By 2050, we plan to have 10,000 power plants around the world to power the grid and answer the need for sustainable resources.
