The tow hitch is described by Tesla as "High strength, Class II steel tow bar capable of towing up to 1,600 kg". When carrying accessories (e.g. bike rack), the ball coupling is designed to support vertical loads of up to 72 kg. When using a trailer, the tongue weight is the downward force that the weight of the trailer exerts on the hitch. It must be at least 4% of the total trailer load. The maximum tongue weight (or technically permissible mass at the coupling point) is 160 kg.
The full specs can be found in the Model Y owner's manual here
There are many videos online showing the tow hitch, but the majority are for US vehicles and these use a different tow ball and socket. So this video may help people in the UK and Europe who are ordering a Tesla Model Y and wondering what you get with the tow hitch option.
