✨An anxious mind will always focus on worst-case scenarios and ‘what if’s’ that’s what it is supposed to do.
✨It will presents endless questions, overestimating bad things that could happen.
✨If you dislike uncertainty, you probably crave control and predictability. This can lead to persistent ‘what if’ questions that give you the illusion of covering all possibilities.
✨This type of thinking doesn't solve health anxiety, it makes it worse.
✨How long have you been thinking this way, and has it helped your anxiety get better or worse? If it hasn’t helped, you may see that this thinking pattern isn't a solution but a temporary fix. It might feel protective in the moment but it’s stops you breaking free from the anxiety loop.
📚The good news is that you can learn skills to deal with these ‘what if’ thoughts, which can help stop the spiral that this type of thinking pattern creates. This can also reduce the intensity of ‘what ifs’ and lessen the power they have over you. These skills are covered in detail in my book Ten Times Calmer.
