It’s Great to be a First Time Home Buyer in Hollywood
On November 14th, Amy Ruiz and her family of 5 happily received the keys to their new home in the Boulevard Heights neighborhood from the Mayor, Commissioner Biederman and Community Development staff.
The property was acquired and completely renovated by the City, using State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) funds and made available, for sale, to an eligible household.
Ms. Ruiz had been renting a home in the Boulevard Heights neighborhood for 20 years, where her children attend school, and she volunteers for her children’s sports activities. She had been searching, unsuccessfully, for an affordable home to purchase where she would be able to maintain her family’s roots. One day, she noticed a property advertised within the Hollywood community and on Zillow, so she jumped at the opportunity to submit her paperwork. She was hopeful, yet not completely encouraged.
Once she was notified that she was a priority buyer, she worked within the program parameters with the City of Hollywood Community Development Division and the City’s partner, Broward County Housing Finance Division, to bring her to this day where her dream of homeownership became a reality.
Mayor Josh Levy, District 5 Commissioner, Kevin Biederman, and Community Development staff welcomed Ms. Ruiz and her family with flowers at her new home, while the children claimed their bedrooms. The family are so appreciative of the opportunity and are delighted to spend Thanksgiving in their new house and call Hollywood “home” for many years to come
