QUEDLINBURG TRAVEL GUIDE | The Most Beautiful MEDIEVAL TOWN in GERMANY?! 😍✨
• Opening Greetings in Quedlinburg
“Hello and greetings from Quedlinburg, Germany!” We arrive in this 1,000-year-old medieval gem in Sachsen-Anhalt—timber-framed houses, winding lanes and UNESCO World Heritage everywhere you look.
• Early Morning Arrival
Up at 4:30 AM and four trains later, we roll into town just after 10 AM—eager to make the most of our 24-hour whirlwind visit.
• UNESCO & Romanesque Road
Quedlinburg’s Old Town, Schloss (Castle) and Collegiate Church of St Servatius all share UNESCO status. It’s also a highlight stop on Germany’s Romanesque Road.
• Schlossgarten (Castle Gardens)
Baroque‐style symmetry and perfectly clipped hedges open onto panoramic views of red rooftops, church steeples and the Sauerburg valley below.
• Collegiate Church of St Servatius
Perched on a sandstone cliff, this 1129 AD church houses the royal tombs of Henry I “the Fowler” and Queen Matilda. We toured the treasury vault (jewel-inlaid Bibles!) and peeked at the ongoing restoration—crypt filming is off-limits!
• Guided Half-Timbered Architecture Walk
With 1,300+ Fachwerkhäuser, Quedlinburg is Germany’s largest half-timber town. We traced 14th- to 18th-century construction styles at the Half-Timbered Museum and learned to spot protruding upper levels and carved beams.
• Hearty Market Square Lunch
Pork Medallions in creamy mushroom sauce, fried potatoes & bacon.
“Bear Platter” Carnivore’s Feast: chicken, pork, beef medallions atop string beans & bacon-fried potatoes.
• Hotel Check-In & Room Tour
“Home sweet home for one night!” Our elegant, neutral-tone suite awaits—perfect for a quick power nap after our 4 AM start.
• Lionel Feininger Art Gallery
A quick dip into expressionism at the Feininger Galerie—German-American painter’s works hang in a striking modern space (camera-free inside).
• Mid-Afternoon Coffee & World-Famous Cheesecake
At Café Vincent, we braved the lineup for their legendary Mascarpone & Wild Berry Cheesecake—it really is lineup-worthy.
• Brühlpark Stroll
Named for actor Bruno Brühl, this leafy park hides stately Art Nouveau villas and feels like a mini nature retreat just steps from the town centre.
• Farewell & Next Up: Saale-Unstrut
Our medieval adventure wraps here—peak-roof views, timber-framed alleyways and cheesecake bliss. Subscribe and join us next time as we sip our way through Germany’s northernmost wine region, Saale-Unstrut! 🍷
