Beyond the Science: Working with plant medicines
Plant and mushrooms support healing by connecting the health of the body, mind and spirit, in conjunction with the sacredness of the earth. This sacred weave is intricate and beyond what can be explained by science. This presentation is informed by our work supporting people in their healing journeys as they incorporate plant and mushroom medicines by creating a container that includes the sacred, education, relationship, and a daily commitment to healing. We will explore how this approach supports people to back to homeostasis, health, and wholeness in ways that is beyond what science can research and beyond what can be possible through mainstreamed, hyped “psychedelic” consumption.Earth medicines are not a “miracle cure” and microdosing, for example, is about more then the optimization of productivity and achievement. Through our work with hundreds of clients, we have observed that when people want to heal and take steps to put themselves in a space of trust and to commune with the spirit of the mushroom more than the imaginable can happen. For example, their minds can access emotions that have suppressed through lack of resources to deal with them – emotions that now have the opportunity to rise from deep in their cells to be felt, observed, and released, bringing them back into authentic wholeness and out of the cycle of disease. Drawing on our observations after working with over 2000 people, we will explore several factors that we have observed that lead to healing that are often not discussed within scientific research or the mainstreaming of psychedelics. These include: the importance of practitioners or “prescribers” to have deep relationships with the medicines they are working with (including sitting in ceremony and communicating with their spirits); how containers (such as reverence, prayer, intention and connection) appear to amplify healing. Lastly we will discuss how medicines are cultivated, processed, and exchanged has an impact on their healing properties and how reciprocity with the Earth and the original stewards of these medicines is an essential foundation to creating the container for healing.
Talin and Angela created Roots Herbal in 2018 to help support people in their health journeys with Cannabis and Mushrooms. Our aim is to create a container where people can build a relationship with themselves and their bodies and their health and be empowered to take responsibility for their path of healing as well as create a sacred and trusting relationship with the sacred plants and come into deeper connection with the process of taking these plants in their path of healing. Our way of working and supporting people is inspired by the practices through which indigenous communities work with plants, and the many years of building relationships with the plants we work with.Angela Prusa has been a advocate for the legalisation of cannabis in her home country of Namibia for the past 6 years, where she founded the Cannabis and Hemp Association of Namibia.
