Kyle Pemberton demonstrates a No Wind Downwind Wave Riding scenario that he pioneered during the 2022-2023 surf season.
The mid-winter Northwest Swell that constantly hit Pillar Point, Mavericks, CA, wrap more than 90 degrees and head Northeast along the harbor Jetty Wall. These conditions provide good downwind wave riding when there is no wind. It tends to be more technical to both catch, and ride the swell but can be quite good. Best conditions appear when the buoys are 8 feet or greater with a period of 10 - 12 seconds.
