This song is not originally in 7, but I really like Hiromi Uehara's trio records with Anthony Jackson and Simon Phillips, so I decided to take some inspiration from that record and simply make it be in 7. This arrangement is a fun little combination of a bunch of different things I love: Persona music, Hiromi, 7, and this incredible band!
One thing I've additionally gotten into over the last several months is using the voice as a wind instrument and writing it as part of the section, rather than just using vocalists as a lead feature. Special thanks to our in-house vocalist Julia Baldwin for absolutely nailing our interpretation of this tune exactly how I knew she would!
This is just one of the many incredibly exciting arrangements that will be featured on our next album (which we're close to getting out into the world). Stay tuned- you haven't heard the last of Split Screen :)
